Digital Infrared

Most digital cameras can often see into the infrared part of the spectrum. It depends entirely on the design of the imager, the materials used and the qualities of layers of filter material and glass that overlay the sensors.

With most cameras, if they do respond to infrared light, their sensitivity to this part of the spectrum is very poor in relation to their response to visible red, green and blue. Their sensitivity to IR is so low that it usually requires bright sunlight or long exposures to get enough to form an image.
