Description:

A wedding had just taken place in a small church of a minor Breton town. Confetti can be seen on the floor. The town outside has settled into a normal state again after the departure of the married couple. And now the church has to return to normal as well. A young man has been detailed to clear up the confetti.

He shows a dancelike movement as he brushes the paper petals into a pile. This picture shows him against the bright daylight outside and it is as if he is using the brush as a dance partner.

The picture was taken with an olympus XA on HP5+ film and was shot from the hip. Composition was therefore a product of chance. I knew however that the man would appear backlighted in the righthand doorway but I had no control over framing. Luckily the composition is just about correct with only the lefthand (larger) dorway left incomplete.

I personally like the image for the rim lighting on the man's face and on the scrollwork on the door.
