Description: This picture was taken as a part of my ongoing photo - essay of Father Tony. After the alter servers have prepared for the mass and said a short prayer, they line up at the sacristy door in preparation for the service. I caught the head alter server by surprise with this shot as his expression testifies. Billy, in the doorway is also not concentrating on the job at hand and is staring at the Bible he holds. I don't like the fact that the cross has been cut off at the top, I don't like that the main character is positioned badly and the prominence of his watch, I don't like the many and varied shadows. There is a lot I don't like about this photograph as an image but it has something I can't define which makes me like it. It's saving grace, I believe, is probably its quality as a documentary photograph. I used an arm-mounted Metz flash. The main head was bounced of the ceiling, the fill-in head illuminated the other servers coming through the door. |
