Description:

Joanne was married last summer. I asked her to relive the moment for me in order to get some wedding shots for my work book. Her husband was abroad at the time with work which is why he is not in the picture.

I asked English Heritage for permission to use Netley Abbey as a setting which was duly given. I took mainly colour shots and tried some "other-than-normal" wedding compositions. Three frames were taken in B&W of which this is one.

The composition for this shot has a formal structure in that the subjects have been artificially posed. I have framed the girls in the doorway with the window behind them. They are at the same height as their mother and I have got a rough triangle shape formed by he three of them.

Even though it was a dull and overcast day, the contrasting textures of the dresses and he stonework is quite striking. I don’t think B&W has added to this image as colour was just as striking in the other pictures I took that day.
